What’s Keeping You From a Restful Night’s Sleep: Watch Out for These Red Flags

Did you know that Dr. Singletary, as suave as he appears, was an aggressive snorer until a couple of years ago? Snoring is more than an annoyance; it is the most common sign of sleep-related breathing problems and a warning sign for a more serious, chronic health problem called obstructive sleep apnea. Check out these red flags to see if you think you may have sleep related breathing issues:

Red Flags during Sleep:

  • Habitual snoring or heavy breathing
  • Witnessed Pauses in Breathing
  • Choking or gasping sound, often after a pairs in breathing
  • Restless, non-refreshing sleep
  • Frequent trips to the bathroom
  • Teeth Grinding

 

Red Flags when You Are Awake:

  • Daytime sleepiness, fatigue or lack of energy
  • Falling asleep at inappropriate times
  • Personality or mood changes
  • Poor concentration
  • Early morning headaches
  • Slow reaction times
  • Inability to think clearly
  • Impotence, low sex drive
