THE PROCEDURE
Root scaling involves carefully planing the root surface generally in areas deeper than 3 millimeters and removing plaque and calculus that has accumulated on the root and making the root smooth. A local anesthetic is used for root planing and scaling to make the procedure more comfortable. It may take two to three visits to complete this procedure.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program. Often, antibiotics are prescribed to help kill any remaining bacteria.
